Maggie is set on being an actress, but only has a bit part in the local play. She asks her friend to smuggle her into a Hollywood producer's room, but she refuses. As she leaves the grounds where her friend works, she sees the producer and breaks into lines from her play. Not knowing what she is doing, he interprets her words as meaning that she and Pete have fallen for each other. That evening, Maggie gets a chance to play the lead when the star and her understudy are both sick. Pete and the producer are in attendance and recognize Maggie in the play. Pete goes backstage to confront her.
