After college, Jack tells his dad that he wants to go into business instead of being a farmer because there's a better future in it. Jack works hard and he plans to wed Mary when he gets a big promotion. When a co-worker retires, Jack seems on the verge of getting the promotion so he plans a big night out with Mary to celebrate. But as Mr. Greaves' secretary, Mary learns that the promotion is being given to someone else. Not wanting to spoil their big evening, Mary can't bring herself to tell Jack about the promotion.
