In Palm Beach for the annual film ball, Kathy wants to get away to rest after the success of her latest film, but her manager insists she needs to make another movie while she is popular. She decides to leave without telling anyone. After driving more than two hours, she has an accident after swerving to avoid hitting a man in the road. She awakens to find herself at the man's house and introduces herself as Kathy Smith to avoid having the place swarmed with reporters. She discovers he was a famous writer who became a recluse after the death of his wife and best friend in a car accident.
