Corinne worked as a mermaid in Fred's traveling freak show until she inherits ninety thousand pounds from a professor of marine biology who had no living relatives. The professor had longed to establish the existence of mermaids and spent many happy hours studying her exhibition. News of Corinne's unusual inheritance makes her famous and she appears on a television panel show. But when it becomes clear that no one takes her seriously, she finds she just wants to get away from anyone who could recognize her.
