Gail arrives in London from Liverpool to look for her boyfriend Joe. As she looks out the window late that night thinking of Joe, a neighbor across the street from her window coughs and introduces himself as Mike Taylor, a would-be playwright. Gail tells him the story of how she had helped Joe get his start in the music business at the Café Noir in Liverpool when the band's lead man was out with the flu. Eventually, Joe became known as Beau Bradley and developed a fan club of his own. Then he went to London, promising Gail that she would be with him when he made it to the top.
