Tim and Susan have been engaged for four years, but Tim has been in America for three of those years becoming a rich and successful public relations specialist. Although Susan loves Tim, she fears she is holding him against his will so she breaks off their engagement. When Susan visits old Miss Claypool who lives in the basement flat, she gives Susan a song she wrote and asks Susan to sell it to a music publisher. Miss Claypool is broke and will have to move to an old people's home if things don't improve, so Susan agrees to try. She has no luck until she asks Tim for help.
