Jill was originally shy and awkward. To get over her heartbreak when a boyfriend gets engaged to someone else, Jill decides to go out and pretend to be a swinging girl. She develops quite a reputation as a flirt, but when she gets over her broken heart she goes back to being shy and awkward. She meets John at a party and falls for him, but he doesn't give her a second chance because of her reputation as a flirt.
