Love Story Picture Library #1290
"Wish You Were Near" is a quietly stirring romance from 1975, drawn with delicate precision by Jordi Badesa i Giner, whose expressive artwork brings the sun-drenched deserts and shifting emotions of Jill’s journey to life. As she trades dusty museums for moonlit sands, Jill finds herself caught between two men—David, a fellow dreamer with a hidden connection to the ruins, and Ramon, whose charm masks a dangerous secret. The story unfolds with a gentle tension, set against the vast, silent beauty of the East, where every glance and gesture carries weight.

Jill books an eastern tour with visions of the romantic, moonlit desert. The tour is initially disappointing to her as her touring party were mostly old fogies mainly interested in visiting musty museums and mouldering remains. She breaks away from the party and meets David who seems to be a kindred spirit until she finds he works at an archaeological site. Then she meets wealthy Ramon, who seems to provide her with the romance she had been looking for. But Ramon is using her to smuggle diamonds from Africa to London.
