“Night Must End”

"Night Must End" is a moody, character-driven tale from Love Story Picture Library #1119 (1973), a 6p comic where a chance encounter on Sunset Boulevard spirals into a dangerous game of trust and deception. When Susan, a wealthy but restless young woman, impulsively trades in her dented car, the sharp-eyed salesman Quentin takes her on a trip to Las Vegas—where his past debts soon threaten to consume them both. With striking visuals by Ángel Badía Camps, whose artwork brings a haunting stillness to every panel, the story unfolds with quiet tension, building toward a moment that will test everything Susan thought she knew about the man she’s come to trust. Idly-rich, Susan is talking to her stuffed panda next to her while driving on Sunset Boulevard. Distracted, she pulls up late at a traffic signal and hits the car in front of her. Buying new cars like other girls buy new shoes, she trades in her dented car. The car salesman has a hard edge that intrigues her so she demands Quentin deliver the car to her personally. Afterwards, he takes her to Las Vegas. Already in debt there, he loses even more money. He is offered a chance to have his debts forgiven if he uses his connection to help kidnap Susan in a ransom plot.
