Denise had always grabbed what she wanted and never cared who got hurt. Peter takes all the girls out, but never dates one more than a couple of times so Denise sees it as a challenge. They do start dating steadily and Pat really does fall for him. Peter never allowed himself to become involved with a sweet, loving girl, but Pat was different because she was tough.
