About this Collection

Love Bullet Vol. 1 marks the English-language debut of inee's celebrated yuri action manga, arriving as a direct result of an unprecedented international fan campaign that rescued the Japanese edition from cancellation. The series is notable for placing Girls Love characters at the center of a high-energy supernatural action story without framing their queerness as something requiring explanation or justification — a posture that critics have singled out as a meaningful step for the genre's representation in mainstream manga publishing. Its path to Western readers, driven entirely by grassroots reader advocacy rather than traditional licensing interest, stands as a case study in how global fan communities can reshape the economics of niche manga. The Yen Press Vol. 1 also carries the distinction of being the debut work of an American-based Japanese manga artist who entered the industry through social media scouting rather than conventional channels.

History

inee is a Japanese artist living in the United States who majored in illustration but found the North American comics industry inaccessible; during the COVID-19 pandemic, social media fan art led to her being scouted by a Japanese manga editor who did not initially realize she was based overseas. The two developed her one-shot concept — Cupid's Way to Resolve a Love Triangle — into the serialized Love Bullet for Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Flapper, beginning October 2023, with the manuscript workflow relying on professional translators for both the script and remote editorial meetings. Because inee originally wrote the series in English before it was translated into Japanese for serialization, the Yen Press edition required a second English translation by Masaaki Fukushima and lettering by Aila Nagamine. The English license was announced at MCM Comic Con London in May 2025, a direct outcome of the September 2024 international fan rescue campaign in which readers purchased the Japanese volume en masse to prevent cancellation.
