Love and Rockets #9
In "Wary Mirth," Jaime Hernandez delivers another richly layered chapter in his ongoing saga, where Trix and Cap'n Kork make a daring escape from Interplanetary Space Police custody with Katak in tow, while Isla confronts the fractured Hellmet in a moment of uneasy surrender. The arrival of The Destroyers at the village sets a tense stage as they prepare to face an imminent threat, leading to a surreal clash with a fanged vampire serpent that collapses under its own weight—only for the ladies to track its corpse to Animus, feasting in the aftermath. Cover by Jaime Hernandez, this 2020 issue from Fantagraphics pulses with the artist’s signature blend of surrealism, emotional depth, and kinetic energy.
