Lorna's father, a trader, dies. When her rifle jams during a rhino attack, Lorna is rescued by M'Tuba, a safari guide. She vows to never use Western weapons. She and M'Tuba are attacked and captured by the Wafisi headhunters. Lorna is freed by M'Tuba's pet monkey, Mikki. She and the tribe's witchdoctor engage in combat, and he is accidentally killed. Lorna proclaims M'Tuba the new tribal chieftain and declares that she and Mikki will explore the deep jungle in honor of her father.
