“Delayed Action Gumballs”

Bugs Bunny takes on the role of backyard chef in this cheerful 1955 Dell issue, sporting a blue apron and yellow hat as he seasons a carrot rotating on a spit grill — because of course his cookout menu is entirely carrot-based. A basket of fresh carrots, condiment jars, and a grill full of colorful vegetables complete the scene, all rendered with warm, inviting linework by cover artist Ralph Heimdahl. It's a delightfully domestic snapshot of everyone's favorite wiseacre rabbit, and a fine example of the easygoing charm that made Looney Tunes a staple of mid-50s comics shelves.
