Locke & Key #4
In "Welcome to Lovecraft: Chapter Four," Sam journeys across the country, sharing his painful past with a truck driver—his father’s abuse, his mother’s indifference, and the cruelty of school bullies. As he reflects on his life, he recalls Duncan Locke’s quiet support and a chilling moment when Tyler, angry at his father, jokingly suggests Sam should kill his own if he ever does. Meanwhile, in Lovecraft, Tyler grapples with the weight of his grief beneath a facade of toughness for Bode. Written by Joe Hill and illustrated with haunting precision by Gabriel Rodriguez, this issue deepens the emotional core of the series, with cover art by Rodriguez capturing its raw, introspective tone.

Sam makes his way across the country. He tells his backstory to a truck driver. Sam's father beat him regularly, his mother ignored his accomplishments, and the jocks in the school tormented him. Sam also recalls that Duncan Locke tried very hard to help Sam with college applications, and he remembers Tyler being so mad at his father that Tyler says offhandedly that if Sam ever kills his own dad that he should kill Tyler's dad too. In Lovecraft, Tyler struggles with having to maintain a macho outer image for Bode and his true feelings of overwhelming grief.
