Little Max finds himself in quite the predicament on this 1956 Harvey Comics cover, his whole head trapped inside a large yellow birdcage while golf balls scatter across the green around him — a bucket full of them sitting nearby as golfers swing away in the background. Warren Kremer's cheerful linework gives the scene an irresistible slapstick energy, making Max's wide-eyed, oddly cheerful expression all the funnier given his situation. It's the kind of warm, goofy humor that made this Joe Palooka spin-off such a delightful corner of Harvey's lineup.
