Little Audrey #8
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeLittle Audrey features two main stories. In the first story, Audrey creates an escalator ride using a staircase and charges two pennies per ride, but the scheme ends in disaster when the escalator crashes. In the second story, titled "Sarge," a military man with a broken wheel asks Audrey to repair it; Audrey cleverly fixes it by filling it with sand instead of air, earning the soldier's gratitude. The issue concludes with a touching domestic story in which Audrey's Aunty must leave for dinner but reluctantly departs when Audrey insists she cannot stay, though her Aunty ultimately remains after Audrey's mother promises ice cream if she stays the night.
Little Audrey is convinced that fame and history await her, and she sets out on a series of wild schemes to become as legendary as Joan of Arc or Florence Nightingale—inventing a contraption to wake her father, concocting a mysterious new dish, and even attempting daring rescues. But each ambitious plan seems to backfire spectacularly, leaving chaos and frustrated grown-ups in her wake, and Audrey beginning to wonder if becoming famous might be harder than she thought.
Little Audrey refuses to wear her bulky petticoats and hoop skirts for a day of play, so her mother whisks her back to pioneer times to show her how girls dressed in the old days. When a frontier settlement comes under attack, Audrey discovers those layers of clothing might be more useful than she bargained for.
When Little Audrey joins her classmates on a butterfly hunt with a lollipop prize on the line, she's determined to prove that girls are just as capable as boys—especially after a know-it-all competitor dismisses her chances. What starts as a competitive scramble through the outdoors quickly spirals into comic chaos, complete with a mistaken bee and a meddling dog, but Audrey's day takes an unexpected turn when she stumbles onto something far more valuable than any butterfly.
