Volume 6 of Leviathan closes out this dark manga collaboration between Eiji Otsuka and Yu Kinutani with a cover that's equal parts eerie and arresting — a towering, long-haired figure in a sweeping black coat stands alongside a small girl dressed in elaborate violet and lace, while faint supernatural shapes drift at the edges in spectral green and blue. The contrast between the imposing, shadowed guardian and the delicate child makes for a genuinely compelling image. Published by Asuka in 2005, this final volume is a strong capstone to a series that never shied away from unsettling atmosphere.
