Les Zombies qui ont mangé le monde #1
Published by Les Humanoïdes Associés in 2004, this French-language series opener — Les Zombies qui ont mangé le monde, Tome 1: Une Odeur Épouvantable — announces itself with a cover that perfectly balances dark humor and dread. Guy Davis's linework dominates the scene: a colossal, gape-mouthed zombie looms over a cityscape swarming with the undead, while three very human survivors — a bespectacled older man, a shirtless tough, and a young woman in overalls — stand their ground in the foreground with weary defiance. The tongue-in-cheek "Gore-O-Scope" and "Terro-Color" mock-vintage badges frame Davis's wonderfully grotesque composition, setting the tone for what promises to be a zombie saga with plenty of wit alongside the horror.
