A firefighter in full gear clutches a tree for dear life — or perhaps for love — while a startled young woman clings to the other side, a heart carved into the bark between them and a raging forest fire blazing dramatically in the background. Small woodland creatures scatter in the chaos, adding a delightful comic-strip energy to the scene. Cazenove and Stédo's humorous French firefighting series is in fine form with this 2007 Bamboo Édition volume, subtitled Un homme et une flamme — "A Man and a Flame" — a title that works beautifully on more than one level.
