Paris, 1921 : Vincent, un peintre qui faisait partie des "caméléons" - ces soldats spécialisés dans l'art du camouflage - est mort dans les tranchées, trois ans plus tôt. Sa femme Elsa s'est remariée avec le frère d'armes et d'atelier de Vincent, Théo, qui a repris la galerie d'art de son beau-père.
