Les bêtes de Black City #1

A dusty, sepia-drenched Western atmosphere sets the stage for Les bêtes de Black City, as Lorenzo Nuti's cover art layers two vivid worlds into one striking image: in the foreground, a group of hard-faced men — including a commanding bearded figure at center — stand before what appears to be a fortified building, flanked by uniformed officers, while above them cabaret performers in feathered and corseted finery swirl in smoky abandon. The tension between those two registers — raw authority below, decadent spectacle above — makes "La chute des anges" (The Fall of Angels) feel like a title that earns its name before you've even opened the cover. Written by Marco Rastrelli and brought to life with confident, expressive linework by Nuti, this 2011 Tabou/Éditions de l'éveil release looks like a genuinely compelling start to the series.
