Les Aphrodites #2

The second volume of Emmanuel Murzeau's Les Aphrodites d'Andréa de Verciat arrives in 2011 with a subtly haunting cover: a figure rendered in cool, smoky blues holds an ornate mask at arm's length, its blank eyeholes staring outward with an unsettling quiet. Murzeau's linework — pencils and inks both his own — gives the composition an almost dreamlike, classical atmosphere that feels closer to fine art than genre illustration. "Le masque aveugle" promises a story as elegantly mysterious as its imagery.
