Set against the soaring Gothic façade of Notre-Dame de Paris, this 2017 entry in Glénat's long-running medieval series Les Aigles Décapitées presents a striking and ominous tableau. Two central figures — one in vivid red robes, the other in blue — stand before a crowd as flames consume a pyre at the right of the composition, the title "Le Bûcher" (The Pyre) leaving little doubt that the stakes are dire. Writer and artist Michel Pierret, with colors by Maxime Pierret, brings medieval France vividly to life in what looks to be one of the series' most dramatically charged installments.
