The thirteenth volume of Kraehn and Pierret's long-running medieval series brings us La Princesse Mordrie, and the cover sets a quietly compelling tone: a dark-haired young woman wearing a jeweled diadem peers cautiously from the shadows, her red garments and guarded expression suggesting both nobility and unease. It's a beautifully intimate portrait — Pierret's linework gives the princess a striking presence that draws you in immediately. Glénat's 1999 release looks like a worthy continuation of one of Franco-Belgian comics' more enduring historical adventures.
