The first two storylines revolve around Mary's struggles to find work as an actress when she arrives in New York. In the third story, she eventually is forced to accept a job as a hat check girl at a night club to make ends meet. Her life (and the series) changes one night when the publisher of "View" magazine wants to prove that a cover article on anyone would be the making of them.
