Nicolas Mahler's Leicht beschädigte Tiere — "Slightly Damaged Animals" — announces itself with a wonderfully understated cover: a small, droopy bird rendered in Mahler's characteristically spare line work, looking ever so slightly worse for wear against a clean, muted background. The title and that dejected little creature perfectly capture the dry, deadpan humor Mahler brings to his work.
