A single-engine monoplane — unmistakably evoking Lindbergh's famous Spirit of St. Louis — sweeps low over the grounds of the U.S. Capitol in a breathtaking image that sets the stakes immediately. In the foreground, armored riot police brandishing rifles close in on a figure in a tan coat, while a crowd of onlookers strains against barriers in the background. Gilles Chaillet's linework gives the whole scene a crisp, cinematic tension that makes this thirteenth Lefranc adventure, written by Jacques Martin and published by Casterman in 2001, a very compelling addition to the series.
