The first volume of Le Sentier de la Guerre opens with a striking image: a proud Native American warrior in a full feathered headdress, mounted on a dark horse against a wide, open sky, rifle in hand — the grasses of the plains stretching out below him, scattered arrows and gear at his feet. Writers Marc Bourgne and Didier Pagot bring a sense of quiet authority to this Western saga set around Little Bighorn River, promising a story told from a perspective too rarely centered. Glénat's 2021 release looks like a compelling, thoughtfully crafted addition to the Franco-Belgian Western tradition.
