From French publisher Cornélius comes this intriguing 2008 release by Éric Veillé, whose deadpan visual wit is on full display right from the cover: a vast, ruddy mustachioed face dominates the teal background, with a small, placid human figure perched atop it like a curious afterthought. The image captures something both absurd and strangely philosophical, perfectly in tune with a title that translates as The Meaning of Life and Its Brothers. Veillé's restrained, graphic style makes the whole thing feel quietly unsettling in the best possible way.
