“Tif et Tondu au pays des gangsters”

"Tif et Tondu au pays des gangsters" marks a rare early appearance of Chester Gould’s iconic American crime-fighter Jojo in the Spirou universe, drawn with sharp, noir-tinged precision by Gould himself. In this 1938 adventure, Junior and Brighton Spotts hide beneath a freight wagon in Layton Valley, armed with stolen supplies and a borrowed rifle, as a mysterious train of livestock blocks their view—only for two men to tamper with the wagon’s plombs, sparking a tense standoff. The cover by Rob-Vel captures the moment with dramatic flair, a striking visual that sets the tone for the unfolding mystery.
