Le Fou du Roy #6
The sixth volume in Cothias and Goepfert's historical series finds "Le Baron de Molière" in fine form, with Goepfert's cover painting setting a wintry, elegant scene: a cloaked rider on horseback faces a young figure in a wide-brimmed hat against a pale snowy landscape, a grand château glowing warmly in the background beneath a rust-red sun. The muted palette and composed staging give the whole image a quietly theatrical atmosphere perfectly suited to a story carrying Molière's name. Published by Glénat in 1998, this album is a handsome addition to one of Franco-Belgian comics' more charming excursions into the court of the French king.
