Le Dernier Atlas #1
From Dupuis in 2019, this French graphic novel opens Le Dernier Atlas with a cover that sets the mood beautifully: a rugged, cigarette-smoking man in a white jacket dominates the foreground, while behind him two figures — an older white-haired man and a younger woman in military green — stand against a smoldering red sky. Looming over them all is the silhouette of a massive, crane-flanked robot mech, hinting at an industrial world where human drama and colossal machinery collide. Hervé Tanquerelle's linework gives the whole scene a cinematic weight that makes this opening volume from Vehlmann, de Bonneval, Tanquerelle, and colorist Laurence Croix one to pick up immediately.
