Joann Sfar returns to his beloved series with this 2015 sixth volume of Le Chat du Rabbin, subtitled "Tu n'auras pas d'autre dieu que moi" — "Thou shalt have no other god before me." The cover, drawn by Sfar himself, is a quietly enchanting scene: a woman in an ornate red dress stands with her back to us, gazing through an arched Moorish window at a moonlit courtyard with a palm tree and a cemetery beyond, while the Rabbi's wide-eyed cat perches at her side amid a richly detailed room filled with books, candles, and ceramic vessels. It's an image that perfectly captures the series' signature blend of the domestic and the divine, the everyday and the otherworldly.
