Written and drawn by Dick Malmgren, with inks by Joe Edwards, colors by Barry Grossman, and letters by Bill Yoshida, this 1976 laugh-out-loud tale captures the classic Archie charm. The cover, by Stan Goldberg and Rudy Lapick, perfectly captures the silliness of the situation.
Archie’s determined to impress Mr. Lodge by helping with his garden—especially since the man insists on using only "natural" sand and refuses to buy any. When Archie learns the garden needs more sand, he hatches a plan to haul a trailer full from the beach, hoping to earn some goodwill with a little hard work and a whole lot of sand.
In "Wave Knave," Dilton Doiley builds a high-tech, gyroscopic surfboard for Archie to use in a big surfing competition, but Reggie Mantle has other plans—once he hears about it, he’s determined to steal the board and ride it himself. The race is on, and with Archie’s invention in the wrong hands, the waves are about to get a whole lot more chaotic.
