Yukito Kishiro's Gunnm: Last Order reaches its seventeenth volume with a cover that perfectly captures the series' blend of fragility and menace — a silver-bodied female figure crouches barefoot on a stone pedestal, surrounded by enormous dark wings spread wide against a blazing orange sky. The contrast between her slender, luminous form and the massive, almost organic wingspread creates an atmosphere of quiet intensity that the series does so well.
