Volume 9 of Hiroya Oku's Last Hero Inuyashiki presents one of the series' most quietly striking covers: a close, profile portrait of an elderly man in a grey suit, his silver hair and weathered features rendered with understated, almost photorealistic detail. There's real dignity and weight in that calm sideways gaze — a reminder that this is a story where an unremarkable older man carries extraordinary burdens. Ki-oon's 2017 French edition is a fine entry point into one of manga's more thought-provoking explorations of heroism and humanity.
