In Lana #7 (1949), Swifty drops a bombshell: the Finegold Beauty Contest isn’t just for glamour—it’s a golden ticket to a role in an upcoming play. Lana and Clara throw themselves into the competition with fierce determination, but Clara’s schemes take an unexpected turn when she swaps Lana’s photo with one of Mom Murphy, leading the judges to surprisingly crown Mom as the star. Art by Bill Williams brings the playful chaos to life in this 1949 gem.

Swifty tells Lana and Clara that the Finegold Beauty Contest this year is for models and the winner is sure to get a part in an upcoming play. Needless to say both girls go after Mr. Finegold with gusto. Clara's tricks backfire on both of them because when she replaces Lana's photo with one of Mom Murphy, Finegold and the judges decide Mom would be just the one to boost sales, so they hire her.
