La tour des anges #2
The second volume of this French graphic adaptation of Philip Pullman's work — credited to Stéphane Melchior and Thomas Gilbert — opens with a striking cover that sets the mood immediately: two young figures and a small white cat move through the shadow of an immense gothic structure, its architecture crowned by brooding stone angel statues that loom over the scene with quiet menace. The contrast between the small, vulnerable characters below and the monumental, otherworldly guardians above gives the image a genuinely compelling sense of scale and unease. Published by Gallimard in 2020, this is a handsomely crafted entry in what is shaping up to be a beautifully atmospheric adaptation.
