La maison n'accepte pas l'échec #[nn]

From Les Enfants Rouges comes this intriguing 2014 Franco-Belgian release by David Snug, whose deadpan sensibility is on full display right from the cover. A bearded, helmeted figure lies sprawled on a sidewalk beside a doormat and a potted flower, one hand raised in a casual wave — as if tumbling out of everyday life were the most natural thing in the world, with a vintage car and a cheerful pink building rounding out the scene. The title, La maison n'accepte pas l'échec ("The House Does Not Accept Failure"), promises exactly the kind of wry, grounded absurdism that makes alternative comics so rewarding.
