It follows Lieutenant Mandella through the early years of a interstellar conflict where relativistic travel means soldiers age slowly while Earth changes rapidly around them. This Dupuis edition collects the opening chapters of the story, originally serialized in the late 1980s, focusing on Mandella's training and first deployments between 2010 and 2020 in the story's timeline.
