The ninth volume of La Guerre des Lulus centers on Lucas, and Hardoc's cover sets the mood beautifully: a young boy in a worn suit hauls a heavy suitcase along a harbor dock, seagulls wheeling overhead while a steamship called Vlak 843 waits at the quay behind him. Written by Régis Hautière with art, inks, and colors by Hardoc (alongside colorists David François and David Périmony), this 2023 Casterman entry carries the quiet, melancholy atmosphere the series does so well. There's something genuinely moving about that solitary figure on the docks — small against the ship and the wide sky — that makes you want to turn the page immediately.
