La disparue #[nn]
Jérôme Pigney's La disparue draws you straight into the sun-washed streets of what feels like Lisbon, where a cobblestone tram line threads between narrow facades and a yellow streetcar rumbles toward the foreground. A pensive, dark-haired young man occupies the lower left while a vividly dressed figure stands further up the street, the two rendered in a compelling contrast of muted sketch-work and warm color that gives the whole scene an atmosphere of quiet tension. Published by Actes Sud in 2017, this French graphic novel promises the kind of thoughtful, European street-level storytelling that lingers long after the last page.
