Juan Gimenez's Léo Roa: L'Odyssée à Contretemps — the second volume of this French sci-fi series — announces itself with a striking cover where the yellow-suited title character lunges dynamically in the foreground, arms outstretched, against a dense mosaic of alien and robotic faces that crowd every corner of the composition. A large, serene feminine face dominates the background, lending the image an almost dreamlike tension between stillness and motion. Published in 1991 by Les Humanoïdes Associés, this is Gimenez's artwork at its richly detailed, visually inventive best.
