L'homme en pièces #[nn]
Marion Fayolle's cover for this 2016 Magnani release is quietly arresting — three disembodied human heads float like hot-air balloons, each serving as the envelope above a wicker basket carrying small human figures. The bearded man at center cradles two people amid billowing red flames, while a young boy's head lifts a lone woman in red, and a woman's head carries a solitary waving man — a surreal, intimate tableau that perfectly captures the book's title, L'homme en pièces ("The Man in Pieces"). Fayolle's delicate, cross-hatched linework gives the image a dreamlike tenderness that makes this one hard to look away from.
