Klezmer #3

Joann Sfar's Klezmer returns with its third volume, subtitled Diebe, alles Diebe!, published by avant-verlag in 2010. The cover, painted entirely by Sfar, immerses us in a nocturnal shoreline scene bathed in moonlight and firelight — a tall, hat-wearing figure plays a wind instrument while clutching a stringed instrument, with crouching companions huddled nearby and a crackling bonfire illuminating the darkness behind them. Sfar's loose, expressive brushwork gives the whole image a restless, wandering energy that perfectly suits this world of traveling musicians.
