King: The Phantom #3

There's something genuinely striking about this cover by Declan Shalvey — the Phantom sits alone on a massive stone throne flanked by skull-topped pillars, rendered in a moody two-tone palette of deep grey and purple that feels both regal and quietly ominous. The brooding composition gives the Ghost Who Walks an almost mythic weight, suggesting a hero carrying the full burden of his legacy. With Brian Clevinger writing and guest star Mandrake the Magician along for the ride, issue #3 of this 2015 Dynamite series looks like a fine meeting of classic King Features heroes.
