The fourth volume of Kinderen in het Verzet ("Children in the Resistance") carries an unmistakable weight: a girl wearing a yellow Star of David badge stands apart on the left, while two children crouch in a narrow culvert beneath a looming German military vehicle, one of them reaching out urgently to a younger boy. Benoît Ers renders the tension between ordinary childhood and the crushing realities of occupation with quiet precision, framing the muted, olive-toned cover with ghostly period photographs that deepen the historical atmosphere. "Steeds erger" — "Getting Worse" — signals that this 2019 Le Lombard installment from Dugomier and Ers pushes their young protagonists into ever more dangerous territory.
