Kid Colt Outlaw #98

Kid Colt crouches desperately on a wooden beam above a gang of armed outlaws closing in from below, while the top-hatted King Kobra looks on from the shadows, his thought bubble making his menacing intentions perfectly clear — it's a cover by Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers that practically bristles with tension. This May 1961 Marvel Western pits the Kid against seemingly impossible odds in "Trapped by King Kobra!", with guns drawn on all sides and no obvious escape route. At a dime a copy, it's a snapshot of Marvel's Western storytelling at its most pulse-quickening.
