Dean Denton, America's foremost ventriloquist-turned-scientific detective, discovers that his ancient nemesis the Conqueror has escaped from a Belgian Congo prison and is now orchestrating a sinister campaign along the Tonigam Line—using a hypnotic light device to enslave captured soldiers from warring nations and bend them to his will. Denton infiltrates the Conqueror's hidden cavern network, pretending to fall under the hypnotic spell, to sabotage the villain's master plan before he can seize control of the entire region. With his wits and quick action, Denton manages to turn the tide against the Conqueror's raiding forces—but the war criminal escapes, and the real battle is only just beginning.
